THE FIRST FEW MONTHS OF THIS WINE YEAR 2018

Another year which inforced the certainty of being on our right track. We’re glad to hear that also others see it like this! The marathon of wine exhibitions was a great success. During Prowein and Vinitaly there was a huge rush on our stand. Every year we are excited to gain a broad network of contacts. We would like to thank you all for the encouragement from many small corners in Italy, Europe and the whole world.

The highlight of 2018 was, without question, our exhibition Explore & Taste. It was the fourth edition of this event dedicated at clients, journalists, wine critics and retailers from all parts of Italy. Another important part was the presence of many top wine producers from all over Europe who were presenting their wines. Over 300 invited wine professionals took part of this exclusive event at Pfitscher winery. And again, another time we’ve made it to bring the high-level protagonists of the wine scene to Montagna.

Since it’s never getting boring in Pfitscher winery, we organized another event for winelovers called “Wines on Rooftop” on the occasion of “Notte delle Cantine”. The event took place on June 9th on the rooftop of the winery, where we welcomed over 700 visitors. WINE – TOUR & TASTING – ROOFTOP – SUN – GOOD MUSIC – a brief summary of this amazing party!

The new vintage 2017 is receiving great feedback and we’re proud and happy to share that with you. The vineyards on high altitudes are representing the minerality – the elegance and precision are key characteristic of the new vintage 2017. The white wines and both Pinot Noirs are showing high class quality.

The vegetation started well this year: the winter was pretty vet with lots of snow on the mountains. The soils are provided with enough water. This is the best condition for our vineyards to withstand the high temperatures and dry season in summer without any issues. The spring was quite cool without an early sprout of the vines. We pray to escape another frost attack! The outstanding high temperatures in April let the vines grow high and sprout impressively.

Please do not wonder if you hear the noise of cackle and baa – it’s not the fault of our wines! Since a few months, we have new members in the Pfitscher family: sheep and chickens are keeping us awake all day long. The sheep are helping a lot regarding mowing works. Their wool has an advantage as well: young and green shoot tips are a delicious snack for deers and rabbits, which are damaging the vineyards slowly. The wool of our Ouessant sheeps is perfect to keep deers and small game away from the vines. Fixing the wool with some pork fat is protecting the vines and consequently the harvest in an environment friendly way.
