Our love for Pinot Noir

Our winery is known for its Pinot Noirs, in particular for the " Riserva Matan " but also for the  " Fuxleiten “. Both have unique characteristics and reached winelovers locally as well as internationally.

Our family has been working with the Pinot Noir grape varietal for almost 40 years. The Pinot Nero Riserva Matan is certainly our most popular wine. Our home village Montan, in the South Tyrolean dialect "Matan", gives him this name. Since the very first bottling in 1995 it became to our flagship wine.

The high-elevation vineyards in Gleno, situated above Montagna, offers ideal conditions for Pinot Noir. Cool vineyards of clay and limestone, inclined to the west. It is not only a prestigious wine growing area in Alto Adige, but also one of the most recognized areas for Pinot Noir in Italy.

In the mid 1980s, Klaus Pfitscher was one of the first winemakers in our region to plant Pinot Noir in the Guyot vine growing system. His “Burgundian instinct” proved right: today the grapes for “Pinot Nero Riserva Matan“ still come from the same 40-year-old vineyard in Gleno. This makes it one of the oldest Pinot Noir sites in Alto Adige in this growing system.

Low yields and attentive care ensure a fine, sensual red wine that stands out for its well-balanced body and fine tannins. It has excellent ageing potential.
